Golden Cage Heritage Hostel is a 12-bed dormitory hostel at Jl Kartini No 51, Denpasar, Bali — in the heart of the city's heritage district. We're at Jl Kartini No 51, Denpasar, Bali. The building has Bakung Flower Shop on the ground floor — look for the flower shop entrance. We're one block from Jalan Gajah Mada, 5 min walk from Pasar Badung, and 7 min from Pasar Kumbasari.

The cheapest way is the public bus from the airport to Jalan Gajah Mada — the bus stop is just one minute walk from the hostel. Taxis and Grab/Gojek are also available (25-35 minutes, Rp 80,000-120,000). Show the driver: Jl Kartini No 51, Denpasar. Look for Bakung Flower Shop on the ground floor when you arrive.

Ubung Bus Terminal is 6 minutes away and runs daily overnight buses to Yogyakarta (12-14 hrs), Surabaya, Malang, and Banyuwangi (for Ijen). Martin can help you book bus tickets and arrange Bromo-Ijen tours — just ask at check-in. Many guests use Golden Cage as their Java launchpad.

There are several laundry services within walking distance. Martin will send you pinned locations via WhatsApp after check-in. Prices are typically Rp 5,000-7,000 per kg. Same-day service is available if you drop off before 9am.

You're in one of the best food areas in Bali. Breakfast: Pasar Badung warungs (5 min walk, Rp 10,000-20,000). Lunch: Warungs on Jalan Sulawesi — nasi campur and local Balinese food (Rp 15,000-30,000). Dinner: Pasar Badung night market (5 min walk) — sate lilit, babi guling, fresh juices. Martin sends personal food recommendations with pinned maps after check-in.

Indomaret and Alfamart are both within 5 minutes walk on Jalan Gajah Mada. For fresh produce, Pasar Badung (5 min walk) has everything at local prices — some of the freshest fruit and vegetables in Bali. Pinned locations in your welcome WhatsApp message.

Denpasar has a surprisingly good coffee scene. Martin has curated the best local coffee shops within walking distance — from traditional kopi tubruk spots to specialty third-wave cafés. All pinned and sent to you after check-in.

We offer two guided experiences: Bali Heritage Walking Tour (Rp 550,000 / person, 3 hours, max 8 people) — a walk through Denpasar's heritage district including Pasar Badung, Kumbasari, monuments, and temples. Bali Heritage Food Tour (Rp 650,000 / person, 4 hours) — deep dive into local Balinese food culture. Both bookable via WhatsApp.

Yes — and this is the question Martin loves most. Denpasar's Heritage District is one of the last genuinely untouristy places in Bali. Royal palaces, century-old Chinese shophouses, active temples, Bali's largest traditional market, incredible cheap food — all within walking distance. No curated tourist experience. Just the city as it actually is. Most guests who plan one night end up staying two or three.
